Steelman Farms
Ranching is not just what we do, it is how we live.
Steelman Farms is owned and operated by Julie and Clyde Steelman in Blum, Texas.
What began many years ago with goats used for brush control has grown into a working ranch focused on responsible land stewardship, raising quality livestock, and caring for the land we have been blessed with.

How It Started
Julie and Clyde have been raising goats since the late 1980s, using them on various places where they lived or leased land to help manage heavy brush. Long before owning their current ranch, goats were an important part of their approach to land management.
For several years, meat goats were raised on Clyde’s father’s ranch, which sits next to the property they own today. That experience helped shape the way Steelman Farms operates now.
Building the Ranch
In 2018, Julie and Clyde purchased their current ranch and began building their herd of Angus and Angus/Brangus cattle, along with continuing their goat meat program.
Much of the land on the ranch was heavily wooded and covered with thick brush. In many places, it was difficult to even walk through it. When they first looked at the property, they jokingly called it a “goat buffet,” and that idea became part of the plan.
By building fence and turning goats into those areas, the brush could be controlled naturally, allowing grass to grow where weeds had taken over.
Today, cattle and goats work together to maintain the land, improve pasture conditions, and keep the ranch productive.

Life On The Ranch
Steelman Farms produces much of its own hay to feed livestock during the winter months, along with necessary supplements to keep the herd healthy.
The goat herd is primarily Savanna, with some Boer, Spanish, and Kiko crosses chosen for hardiness, parasite resistance, and strong performance in real ranch conditions.
Julie and Clyde believe in raising livestock the way it should be done, with careful management, practical experience, and respect for both the animals and the land.
The livestock raised on the ranch is the same beef and goat that the Steelmans eat themselves, and the same quality they are proud to stand behind.

At Steelman Farms, our goal is simple, to care for the land, raise strong livestock, and continue building a ranch that can be passed on to the next generation.
